AT BACK PORCH, we are all about serving mouthwatering food made from locally sourced products. Our seasonal menus feature a unique blend of California and global cuisine, and are prepared using only the highest quality ingredients. Produce comes from local organic farms, our dairy products are organic, and our meats are hormone free and sustainably raised.

AUSTIN KAYE, owner of Back Porch, has worked full time in the food industry since 1997. As a teenager, he fell in love with cooking while bussing tables at a renowned Italian restaurant. He often stayed after hours without pay, learning to make desserts. He then worked for 9 years as a sushi chef at Zenbu in San Diego, before moving to Portland, Oregon to open and manage Masu—a thriving Japanese food restaurant. While in Portland, Austin learned the culinary arts of the Pacific Northwest. He worked in several high-end establishments specializing in local cuisine, foraged mushrooms, and
worked at a local vineyard and winery. Since moving to Santa Cruz in 2009, Austin has been a butcher for Fogline Farm, worked as a personal chef, and taught cooking to teenagers at several local schools.

The positive relationships that Austin has established with local farms, food innovators, and his customers in the Santa Cruz area continually inform and inspire him. Austin and his wife Alicia started Back Porch in 2012, inspired to create a family business that makes a meaningful contribution to the local community.
